~ God Has No God ~

I’ve heard men talk about heaven like there’s a chain of command

like someone’s watching God waiting to cross out his name from the book of life in his hand

but something doesn’t quite add up when I watch it all unfold

The beginning feels already finished and the end feels alone and cold

God has no God no name he leans on

no place to fall no place to call his own

god has no god that ground won’t hold a man

it’s a lonely kind of freedom you will ne’er understand

we blame our sins on weakness on hunger fear and pain and need

but it starts so much earlier before the acts before the deeds

The first wrong step is not violence or greed or blood upon the ground

it is being discovered in a place where not even God himself is found

God has no God no higher voice to hear

God has no freedom no leaving what binds him near

he must stay while we pray/fray/fade/stray and forgive all that forces him to turn away

so I would have his pardon/garden/guardin’ from this blame while he is imprisoned by rejection to my utter shame

I got lost where God is not found no altar no command

no ground to bear my weary knees and no warmth to clasp my folded hands

I thought I had gone beyond him past the reach of grace that calls my name

but I found God in the nowhere where trying mends/ends and being became

being became flesh beneath the weight of time being became breath that trembled in the dark

being became hunger bleeding out in days being became subject to the breaking of a heart

being became counted measured pushed aside being became bound to choice and consequence and pride

being became blamed for what it did not take being became undone nothing makes sense so I

kept my pace/face until he could be seen but not so he could finish my race

there is no home for him in standing where mercy lingers past its grace

he does not answer every calling he will not haunt what must be/de faced

if he remained while I was forward falling he would become the thing that he erased

people swear they want no master no border no demand

but they still keep a measuring stick hidden in their hand

they say don’t tell me who I answer to then curse the cost of choice

they want the crown without the weight the silence without the voice

God has no God no hand above his own

God has no freedom no leaving what he chose

God has no father no place to pass the cost

no voice to say come home now no throne he has not lost

God has no welcome unless I open the door

no right to stay beside me no claim on anything more

only what I give him freely only what I allow

that is all he ever takes that is all he has now
