In Greek mythology Pasiphae lusted after the white bull Poseidon had sent from the sea

The resultant offspring was a savage hybrid half human and half bull with a penchant for human flesh

Pasiphae named it after its grandfather Asterius but we know it better as the Minotaur

Determined to conceal Pasiphaes unnatural child Minos whose father was Zeus disguised as a bull commissioned Daedalus to build a prison for it beneath the palace of Knossos

The prison was approached by such a maze of corridors that it could never escape

Ariadne daughter of Minos and Pasiphae fell in love with Theseus who decided to enter the maze and kill the Minotaur

Ariadne shared the secret of the maze with Theseus

She put a ball of wool in his hand She took hold of the loose end and instructed him to let the rest unravel as he walked through the twisting corridors

By rolling the ball up again he would find his way back out

The human mind is a maze

The corridors we know represent the conscious mind The ones we are not aware of represent the subconscious

Hidden in the subconscious is the Minotaur the Shadow who seeks to take control

Until you make the subconscious conscious it will direct your life and you will call it fate

To make the unconscious conscious one must be brave and journey deep inside ones mind

like Theseus following a line of thought so one does not get lost and can find the way back to the surface

Whatever the mind hides in the subconscious is painful and the encounter with the Minotaur is dangerous

It might cause serious wounds Sometimes the encounter might burn the self to ashes

But we must remember only by exposing itself to the pain of being burned to ashes the Phoenix resurrects

In psychology the Minotaur is part of the self so it should not be killed but befriended

Only then the maze will no longer be a place where one could become lost but a labyrinth

a known pathway for descending inside the depths of the mind and a known pathway of ascending on a journey to resurrection
